Daniel Bwala, a prominent aide to President Bola Tinubu, has launched a sharp critique against Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, labeling him a self-serving politician who neglects his allies. The accusation was made during a recent interview on TVC, where Bwala questioned Obi’s personal loyalty and support for those who have championed his political cause.
Bwala pointed to the late Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former director of Obi’s campaign, as a primary example. He asserted that Okupe dedicated his “entire life” to supporting Peter Obi’s presidential ambition. However, Bwala claimed that when Okupe fell critically ill, Obi failed to offer any meaningful care or support during his final moments. This alleged neglect, according to Bwala, is indicative of a broader pattern of behavior.
Extending his argument, Bwala noted that other key figures who stood firmly with Obi during the heated 2023 elections have since distanced themselves. He specifically mentioned Valentine Ozigbo and Kenneth Okonkwo, high-profile supporters who have reportedly moved on from the Labour Party camp. Bwala presented this exodus as evidence that Obi is struggling to maintain his inner circle, implying that personal relationships deteriorate once their immediate political utility has passed.
In his direct words from the interview, Bwala posed a rhetorical question: “Who has Peter Obi supported?” He continued, “There was one person, late Doyin Okupe [who] gave his entire life supporting Peter Obi. When this man became ill, Peter Obi couldn’t look at his end. Peter Obi has lost key people around him.”
This public condemnation from a figure within the ruling administration adds a new layer to the ongoing political discourse in Nigeria, shifting focus from policy to personal character and the dynamics of political alliances. The allegations have sparked significant conversation among political observers and the public, who are now scrutinizing the nature of loyalty and reciprocity within the nation’s political elite. As these claims circulate, they contribute to the evolving narrative surrounding Peter Obi’s leadership style and his relationships with former collaborators. View, More,
