Former Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and ex-Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has reportedly held a closed-door meeting with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at Kwankwaso’s Abuja residence.
According to a post shared by Leadership Newspaper on its official Instagram account on Thursday, 29th January, 2026, the meeting has generated significant political interest, particularly as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although details of the discussions were not made public, sources familiar with the development disclosed that the meeting focused on national issues and ongoing political realignments. Both leaders were said to have held extensive talks behind closed doors, away from media attention.
Dr. Fayemi, a former governor and respected policy expert, remains an influential figure in Nigeria’s political space, often engaged in strategic consultations and governance discourse. Senator Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), also continues to play a prominent role in national political conversations.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Fayemi nor Kwankwaso has issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the meeting.
Political observers believe the engagement underscores ongoing consultations among key political actors as preparations gradually intensify toward the next electoral cycle.
