Kanu: Your Conscience Will Tell You This Man Is Innocent, He’s Not Done One Quarter Of Turji-Agomuo

An analysis of the detention and continuing legal processes concerning the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has been offered by Political and Public Affairs Analyst, Barrister Darlington Agomuo.

During a television interview, Agomuo questioned the justification for the extended confinement of the separatist figure. He contended that the specific allegations leveled against Kanu are not commensurate with the magnitude of violent offenses carried out by certain well-documented bandits operating in the northern region of Nigeria.

The analyst suggested that an impartial assessment of Kanu’s activities in relation to those of known criminal actors in the North brings into focus serious questions regarding the principles of justice and fairness. He specifically pointed to the activities of the notorious figure, Turji Bello, who has been linked to numerous incidents of mass killings, abductions, and extensive acts of terror across multiple northern states.

Agomuo maintained that the application of the rule of law within Nigeria exhibits apparent inconsistencies in its approach to offenses linked to national security. He highlighted that while individuals implicated in acts of severe cruelty remain unhindered, others face prolonged custody without a clear resolution. This lack of uniformity, he emphasized, erodes public faith in the legal system and reinforces the impression that justice is applied unevenly.

Furthermore, Agomuo called upon government authorities to consider the wider consequences of Kanu’s ongoing detention on the country’s unity, domestic tranquility, and overall political equilibrium. He proposed that resolving the issue through a fair and open process would contribute to easing existing tensions, especially in the South-East, where a significant portion of the population perceives Kanu’s handling as inequitable.
