It’s Sad That We’ve Lost More Soldiers Since American Troops Came Than in the Last 5 Years—Yusuf

During an interview on Trust TV, political analyst Dr. Usman Yusuf expressed deep concern about the state of Nigeria’s security, particularly in light of the deployment of American troops to the country.

Yusuf said the presence of foreign forces has not stemmed the tide of violence, and he pointed to casualty figures to underscore his point.

According to him, “There’s no way of spinning this; things are not right; people are dying under the watch and stewardship of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and under the presence of American troops that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outsourced our security to. It is sad, and the data is there that we’ve lost more soldiers since the coming of the American troops than in the last 5 years.”

He argued that the expected improvement in security has not materialized and that the rising number of military deaths since the arrival of the U.S. contingent raises serious questions about the strategy Nigeria is currently pursuing.

Yusuf’s comments reflect growing frustration among some analysts and members of the public who expected that international support would lead to a significant reduction in attacks by insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and its splinter factions.
