A former top Israeli military commander had publicly urged the Israeli regime under the leadership of the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu that they should break a major point of deadlock, and begin reconstructing parts of Gaza immediately, even before the return of all hostages.
According to a report by the Jerusalem Post on Thursday, 25 December, 2025, Retired Major General Eliezer Chayni Marom, the former Navy Chief of the State of Israel, argued that Israel’s reflexive rejection of proposals was counterproductive, advocating for a radical shift in strategy, stating “Instead of saying ‘no, no, no’ to the clauses, Israel should say ‘yes,’ and then specify what needs to be done.”
“The solution is to take the area from the Yellow Line eastward to the perimeter, and begin a rehabilitation process there together with the Americans, even before Ran Gvili returns,” General Eliezer Chayni Marom, stated.
He also recommends that Netanyahu’s Government, in partnership with the administration of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump immediately launch a rehabilitation process in the area from the so-called Yellow Line eastward to the Gaza perimeter fence, highlighting that such plan strategically carves out a specific geographic area for initial rebuilding efforts, further framing the plan as a manageable first step that could serve Israeli security interests while addressing the catastrophic humanitarian crisis that had drawn global condemnation.
It was gathered that the argument of General Eliezer Chayni Marom hinged on seizing the initiative and changing the narrative, engaging with reconstruction in a defined area under controlled conditions, Israel could potentially gain greater influence over Gaza’s future layout and security mechanisms, rather than merely reacting to international pressure or hostile actors.
His perspective also suggested that controlled reconstruction was not a reward for the Palestinian nationalist Sunni Islamist political organization, which is known as Hamas, but a pragmatic tool for shaping the postwar reality and preventing a total vacuum that could be filled by chaos or renewed militancy.
