Israel: They Asked Me To Confess To Charges That Were Not True. They Beat Me Until I Lost My Eye”Foul

According to a report by Al Jazeera, on October 21, 2025, in a harrowing account of alleged mistreatment, Mahmoud Abu Foul, a Palestinian recently released from Israeli detention, has revealed that he lost his eyesight following a severe beating by intelligence officers during interrogation.

Abu Foul, who already had one leg amputated due to an earlier attack in Gaza, described the ordeal in detail to Al Jazeera.

He stated that officers demanded he confess to unfounded charges.

“They asked me to confess to charges that were not true. When I refused, they beat me on the head until I lost consciousness,” he said.

Upon regaining awareness, Abu Foul experienced total darkness.

“When I woke up, I tried to open my eyes but I couldn’t see anything. Everything was black … I realised I had gone blind,” he recounted.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Palestinian leaders. Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, condemned the treatment, asserting that Abu Foul endured torture, including electrical shocks, during his time in custody.

Beyond the loss of vision, Abu Foul reported further injuries from the assault. He claimed his spine and ribs were broken by the intelligence officers, exaecrbating his existing disabilities.

Despite the severity of these wounds, he alleged he was denied essential medical treatment and surgery, leading to a significant decline in his health.

Abu Foul’s release comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, where reports of detainee abuse have surfaced repeatedly.

Human rights organizations have long called for investigations into such claims, highlighting patterns of alleged mistreatment in Israeli facilities holding Palestinians.
