According to a report by The Times of Israel on December 25, 2025, Israel transferred the body of Abd al-Muttalib al-Qaisi back to Jordan.
Al-Qaisi, a 57-year-old Jordanian civilian, had recently started driving trucks to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
On September 18, 2025, he arrived at the Allenby Crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge, in one such truck bound for Gaza.
At the checkpoint, al-Qaisi exited his vehicle, opened fire with a concealed pistol, and then used a knife in a combined stabbing and shooting assault.
Israeli security personnel responded immediately, neutralizing him on the spot.
The attack claimed the lives of two Israeli soldiers: Lt. Col. (res.) Yitzhak Harosh, a 68-year-old reservist serving in the Civil Administration, and Sgt. Oran Hershko, a 20-year-old liaison officer coordinating with foreign forces.
Following the incident, Israeli authorities withheld al-Qaisi’s body and closed the Allenby Crossing to Gaza-bound aid shipments.
The closure lasted several months, prompting enhanced security protocols for inspecting aid vehicles and drivers from Jordan.
The crossing later reopened partially for passengers and eventually for goods under stricter measures.
The family’s announcements on social media confirmed the body’s arrival.
Al-Qaisi’s son, Yousef, posted that the remains had reached Jordan, with burial arrangements in the Wadi al-Shita area of Amman.
Military officials indicated that a government directive ordered the discreet overnight handover through the same crossing where the attack occurred.
The specific conditions of the transfer followed political-level instructions.
This return occurred amid ongoing diplomatic coordination between Israel and Jordan regarding border security and humanitarian aid flows.
