Iranian Authorities Ready To Heed People’s Demands, Implement Reforms -Iran President Pezeshkian

According to a report by Al-Jazeera on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, in the wake of massive protests, Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian has promised to differentiate between nonviolent protest and violent discontent.

Sending a message that his administration is ready to hear the people out and implement reforms that are needed.

Pezeshkian stressed the need of constructive engagement in the face of rising discontent across the country in statements broadcast on state television and snippets of which were disseminated by various media sources.

President Pezeshkian recognised in his speech the economic discontent that has brought many Iranians to the streets, particularly following the rial’s precipitous depreciation.

Protests demanding government action on inflation and living costs were started by merchants in central Tehran and swiftly extended to other cities as a result of the currency’s collapse.

Rather of resorting to force, Pezeshkian expressed his readiness to listen to the people’s concerns and pursue economic reforms that address them.

Ordinary Iranians, he said, should voice their opinions peacefully, and he warned against those who would use the disturbance for evil. The president made his remarks at a time when authorities are trying to sort out violent protesters from peaceful ones.

A assertion that reflects historical tensions with the United States and Israel, Iranian officials have increasingly characterised the protests as being controlled by hostile foreign powers aiming to disrupt the nation.

Pezeshkian mentioned that the Interior Ministry had been told to establish lines of communication with protest leaders and learn more about the needs of nonviolent protesters.

Currency volatility and increasing costs, which many feel have diminished purchasing power and added to popular dissatisfaction, are fundamental economic challenges that he also reaffirmed the government’s resolve to address.

A sharp depreciation of the rial, which caused vendors in Tehran’s ancient bazaars to shut down in protest of the worsening economy, was the initial spark that ignited the turmoil.

As more and more residents, including students, joined the protests, the scope of the issues raised regarding economic hardship and government became clear.

In response to the ongoing demonstrations, the administration has reviewed fiscal policies and is in talks with local leaders to discuss potential peaceful solutions.

While urging protesters to refrain from acts that could destabilise social order, Pezeshkian stated that reforms are being studied to stabilise the economy and protect livelihoods.
