General Jack Keane provided dramatic details about Israel’s military strikes against Iran during what he termed the “12-day war,” revealing the devastating precision of attacks that targeted Iran’s military leadership and fundamentally shook the regime.
The Chairman of the Institute for the Study of War explained that the Iranian regime was particularly stunned by the fact that “the first shots that were fired killed all the senior military generals, I’m not talking about some of them. I’m talking about all of them.”
Keane noted that senior nuclear scientists were also eliminated in the strikes, while civilian leaders were notably spared. “Let’s make the assumption they knew where the civilian leaders were as well as they knew where the military leaders were,” the General stated, suggesting the targeting was deliberate and selective.
This precision “rocked this regime,” according to Keane, leaving Iran weakened militarily, economically, and politically both inside and outside the country. In response, he revealed that Iranian authorities arrested 21,000 people “on the desperate hope that they were trying to put away in jail the informants.”
The General disclosed that Iranian authorities killed between 1,500 and 2,000 of those arrested, with many others tortured and beaten in prison. “They feared reprisals because they are so weakened,” Keane explained, describing the regime’s actions as an attempt to intimidate the population.
Drawing a historical comparison, Keane said the situation “reminds me of Reagan back when Lech Walesa, the welder union boss, was leading the demonstration against the Soviet Union.” However, he noted that President Trump is “taking a step further than that and saying I’m going to be there for you. Not just morally.”
The General praised Trump’s public warning to Iran not to harm protesters, contrasting this approach with the Obama administration’s response to previous Iranian demonstrations. “Unlike Obama, President Trump has stood up for the Iranian people here and saying leave them alone. Let them protest, they have legitimate concerns. Don’t do harm or else.”
