Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Adviser on Media to FCT Minister and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, has fired back on his official X account after prominent Islamic cleric and retired military captain Sheikh Ahmad Gumi suggested that President Tinubu’s administration should seek military assistance from Pakistan rather than the United States. Olayinka sarcastically proposed Afghanistan as a more fitting alternative.
Sheikh Gumi’s recent advice to shift away from U.S. cooperation and turn to nations like Pakistan, China, or Turkey has drawn sharp criticism and widespread debate on social media. Many have viewed his comments as questionable and ill-timed, especially following the controversy surrounding recent U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto State.
In his retort, Olayinka derided Gumi as a “terrorist negotiator” and quipped that Afghanistan—still grappling with its own insurgency challenges—would have been a better recommendation.
Olayinka’s pointed, sarcastic response underscores the need for careful consideration in public statements, amplifying concerns sparked by Gumi’s remarks.
