At an earlier protest today, former Rivers State governor and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi spoke to a crowd of protestors and publicly attacked Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In addressing the protestors, Amaechi stated his displeasure with the priorities of the present administration, particularly highlighting what he saw as a misdirected emphasis on symbolic measures rather than addressing urgent national problems that affect Nigerians.
In his address, Amaechi raised doubts about the government’s choice to reinstate the previous national anthem soon after taking power. In his view, the measure did little to address the pressing issues confronting people nationwide, particularly in areas like infrastructure and financial distress.
“Imagine a president who comes to power and the first thing he does is change the national anthem instead of focusing on more pressing issues,” Amaechi said in a passionate address to the audience. Many in the audience responded to his speech, seeming to share his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in terms of governance and development.
Amaechi also blasted the administration for what he called its unfulfilled commitments, especially in the area of infrastructure development. He said that during the campaign season, Nigerians were promised advancements in essential areas like road building and transportation infrastructure. On the other hand, he says that those pledges have not yet produced tangible outcomes on the ground.
