In a recent video shared on Facebook on Monday, February 16, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, spoke about his faith and independence as a Muslim, addressing perceptions about his relationship with traditional Islamic authorities.
According to Dokubo, “I’m a Muslim, and I have always told you: I am not a Muslim who needs the approval of the Sultan — Dokubo,” as he emphasized that his beliefs and actions are guided by personal conviction rather than the endorsement of any religious leader.
Dokubo explained that while he respects Islamic institutions, he does not allow the opinions of any one figure, including the Sultan, to dictate his faith or his decisions. According to him, being a Muslim is about personal accountability and adherence to the teachings of Islam, not seeking validation from authorities.
He added that his independence in religious matters reflects a broader principle of self-determination that also applies to his activism. According to Dokubo, individuals must have the courage to act according to their conscience while respecting the faith’s teachings.
The activist noted that misconceptions often arise when public figures assert their autonomy in religion, but he stressed that this does not equate to disrespect or opposition. According to Dokubo, his stance demonstrates confidence in his understanding of Islam.
Dokubo concluded by urging Nigerians to focus on the principles of faith and integrity rather than hierarchical approval. He emphasized that practicing Islam sincerely is more important than seeking validation from any individual leader, reinforcing his message of independence and personal responsibility…. Discover More
