United States Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has warned that significantly greater American and allied military power is still being deployed against Iran as Washington intensifies its ongoing military campaign.
Hegseth made the remarks during a press conference at the headquarters of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) in Tampa, Florida, on Friday, March 6, 2026, while addressing journalists on the progress of the operation known as Operation Epic Fury.
Speaking alongside CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, the defense secretary signalled that the current phase of military strikes represents only a portion of the total combat capability that could be deployed against Iran.
According to Hegseth, American and allied forces are preparing to significantly increase the scale of operations in the coming days.
“The amount of combat power still flowing, still coming, still to be projected over Iran is multiples of what it currently is, when you add up our capabilities and those of the Israeli Defence Forces,” he said.
The statement underscores Washington’s intention to maintain pressure on Tehran as the conflict escalates, with the United States working closely with the Israel Defense Forces in the ongoing operation.
Hegseth suggested that Iran may be underestimating both the depth of American military resources and the level of coordination with regional allies.
He also emphasised that the United States has sufficient weapons stockpiles and operational capacity to sustain the campaign for an extended period if necessary.
The U.S. defense chief indicated that additional forces, aircraft, and military capabilities are still being mobilised and could be introduced into the theatre of operations, significantly expanding the intensity of the strikes already underway.
Operation Epic Fury was launched under the administration of Donald Trump, with American officials describing the campaign as part of a broader effort to neutralise Iran’s military capabilities and prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
Hegseth’s comments signal that the United States is preparing for a potentially prolonged military confrontation with Iran, even as Washington insists that its objectives remain focused on dismantling Tehran’s military and nuclear capabilities….See More
