If You Could Meet Bandits And Rescue The Children, Why Are Those Bandits In Your Compound? -Okey Ikechuwu

The recent rescue of abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State has been met with widespread celebration, but a prominent analyst has issued a stark warning, questioning the underlying security failures that permit such kidnappings to occur.

According to a report by Arise News TV, political analyst Professor Okey Ikechukwu addressed the incident in a recent interview. “They all came out in good health,” he acknowledged. “Question number one, who was arrested for that abduction? Nobody.”

Professor Ikechukwu criticized the official response, targeting what he termed “counter-narratives” that emphasize non-kinetic methods. “You can speak all the grammar, but there are two issues. If you could meet bandits and rescue the children from them and we are celebrating the separation, then answer the question why are those bandits in your compound.”

He further highlighted contradictory statements from high-level officials, referencing a Defence Minister’s comment on forests being “too thick to bomb” and a deputy minister’s controversial assertion that “not all bandits are criminals.”

“When you hear statements like that,” Ikechukwu continued, “when you discover that bandits can actually do almost anything they like, you begin to ask yourself.” While stopping short of directly accusing the presidency, he concluded, “It is impossible for me to say that the presidency is encouraging this. But it is also possible for me to say that there are people, very well-placed people in government, not in sync with the interest of the Nigerian state, but who are determined to drive this narrative.”
