Solomon Dalung, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns about the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system while speaking about the role of election officials.

In a video shared by SYMFONI TV, he used a strong example to question the independence of Joash Amupitan, suggesting that even in a setting meant to be guided by fairness and honesty, decisions could still be influenced by political power from the presidency.

Dalung’s comments focus on a bigger issue—trust. According to him, people are more likely to believe in elections when those in charge are neutral and not controlled by powerful individuals or government interests. He believes that when institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are seen as biased, it weakens public confidence in the democratic process.

He also stressed that elections should follow clear rules and be handled with transparency. This means every vote should count, and the process should be open enough for people to see that it is fair.

Dalung added that when citizens trust the system, they are more willing to participate in elections. This participation is important because it helps strengthen democracy and ensures that leaders truly represent the will of the people.
