According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday, November 2, 2025, United States President, Donald Trump, has warned that he may order military action in Nigeria over what he described as the killing of Christians in the country.
Trump earlier declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” a U.S. State Department label given to nations accused of violating religious freedom.
In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dismissed Trump’s statements.
He said Nigeria protects the rights of all faiths and does not promote religious persecution.
Tinubu stated that freedom of religion is part of the country’s identity and will continue to be respected.
Trump made the threat through a post on his Truth Social platform, accusing the Nigerian government of allowing Islamic terrorists to attack Christians.
He said he had asked the U.S. Department of Defense to prepare for possible military intervention if the situation continues.
According to him, the United States will cut off aid to Nigeria and may launch strikes to eliminate those responsible for the violence.
Trump said his country would not remain silent while Christians suffer what he called mass slaughter.
The president also repeated his claim that Christianity is under threat in Nigeria.
He said American lawmakers must investigate what he described as large-scale killings.
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians,” he said.
