According to a report by Channels TV on Friday November 14, 2025, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, a former member of the House of Representatives for the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, has forcefully argued that the decades-long pattern of killings in Plateau State amounts to a Christian genocide.
He criticized state and federal authorities for allowing the violence to reach a point where its religious dimension is undeniable.
Bagos expressed profound regret that the continuous failure to resolve the crisis has led to this stark religious classification, challenging those who try to downplay the identity of the victims.
“it’s unfortunate that that authorities have allowed what has been happening on the plateau to now have a religious coronation because this has been killings that started many years ago,” Bagos stated.
The former lawmaker then posed rhetorical questions regarding the identity of the primary victims over the years:
“Because who are the majority there? Who are the majority there? Who are the people that have been killed?”
He stressed that if the roles were reversed, the term genocide would have been immediately applied to the Muslim community, justifying the use of the term for Christians based on the established death toll over the years.
“So had it been if it were Muslims that have been killed over the years, it would be Muslims genocide. But absolutely for how many years that our people have been killed, majority are Christians that were killed. So definitely is Christians genocide.”
Bagos concluded with a lamentation that the government’s inaction has solidified the religious nature of the conflict in the public eye.
