Ayo Fayose, a former Governor of Ekiti State, has expressed strong views on the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), speaking during an interview on Arise Television aired on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
During the programme, Fayose declared that the party had lost significant internal cohesion, stating that key figures had distanced themselves from its structure. “All of them have abandoned the PDP,” he said. “You understand? You can’t build us on a faulty ground. You can’t build us on the swamp. The party is already a swamp.”
He questioned the influence and relevance of individuals he described as active voices within the party, challenging them to demonstrate unity at the leadership level. “Those people that are making noise and running around, how many, let them call governor’s meeting,” Fayose said.
He added that there were developments within the party that he considered embarrassing. “There are things that look like shame. I don’t want to mention names, but they know,” he stated.
Addressing the public directly, Fayose made claims about the future political movements of some PDP governors. “And I want to tell you again to this public, I want to say it to you, that Governor Makinde, Governor Bala, will go to ADC,” he said.
In response to a question referencing comments previously made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde during a media chat, the interviewer noted that Makinde had reportedly ruled out leaving the PDP based on personal principles.
“He said categorically that on the basis of his own personal principles, he will not go to the PDP,” the interviewer said, adding that Makinde had also indicated he would not defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to this, Fayose reiterated his earlier position. “I said he will go to ADC,” he said.
The interviewer further pointed out that Governor Makinde had maintained that he would remain in the PDP, suggesting that some politicians should stand firm on principle. “No, but he said categorically that he will remain in PDP. Because some people, on the basis of principle, should stand firm,” the interviewer said.
Fayose acknowledged the point but dismissed it as insufficient in the current political context. “That’s a gentleman’s talk,” he replied. “I agree with you, but let me, I’ll just ask you a question. Where is PDP now?
