I Left As Military HOS At 42,I Returned 20yrs Later At 62,I Left After 8yrs At 70,I’m 88yrs—Obasanjo

General Olusegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria, has stated that young leaders in Africa should understand that there is life after leaving power.

In a video shared by Symfoni TV, Obasanjo said he was only 42 years old when he left office as Nigeria’s military Head of State. He said he later returned to power 20 years after, this time as a democratically elected president at the age of 62. He said he served for eight years and stepped down at 70

Obasanjo said now he is 88 years old and although he is no longer in official positions, he has not stopped contributing to important issues across Africa and the world.

In Obasanjo’s words: “You said that we are getting young chief executive at our national levels now, yes we are. But I was fairly young when I left as military Head of State, I left at 42. I came back 20 years later at 62, still comparatively young. And then I left after 8 years at 70, still comparatively young. And if I have not given up now officially at 88, still comparatively young then I can say to these young African presidents there is life after the State House.
