How Many Terrorist Groups Do We Have In North Alone Which Religious Group Do They All Belong?—Turaki

In an interview with The Sun on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Professor Yusufu Turaki has dismissed the accusation made by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) against leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

MURIC’s director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, had alleged that Christian leaders were trying to destabilize the country.

Turaki described the allegation as unfortunate, he said it was unfair for one religious group to blame another for speaking out about the killings happening across the country.

He wondered why raising concerns about widespread violence should be seen as an attempt to cause trouble.

He questioned who was truly misleading the country, he asked whether it was MURIC or the Christian groups that have been calling attention to attacks on their communities.

Turaki said it was wrong to create the impression that Christians are the ones causing instability in Nigeria.

The scholar pointed to the many terrorist groups operating in Northern Nigeria.

He asked which religious ideology most of these groups claim to follow.

He argued that Nigerians know the history and behavior of different groups in the country, and cannot be deceived.

Turaki expressed surprise that MURIC would accuse Christian leaders despite clear evidence of religious and ethnic tensions in several regions.

He said such comments only deepen division and distract from the real problem, which is insecurity.

He questioned whether the ideology promoted by MURIC could unite the country.

According to him, Nigeria needs messages that build harmony, not statements that create suspicion among citizens.

“It is unfortunate for a religious group to accuse the other for speaking the truth about genocide. Between the two who is a pathetic liar, and being more deceitful and divisive? Is it MURIC or CAN and PFN? Is this group trying to portray that Christians are the troublemakers in Nigeria?

How many terrorist groups do we have in Northern Nigeria alone? Which religious group do they all belong? MURIC might have assumed that Nigerians are ignorant of the true historical facts of the character traits of all religious groups in Nigeria,” he said.
