Former Senator Dino Melaye has questioned the legal standing of Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe in the ongoing leadership crisis of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Channels Television, Melaye challenged how a man who voluntarily resigned could later sue the party and claim leadership.
He added that Nafiu Bala Gombe resigned from his position on 17th May 2025. He said the resignation was accepted by the party and duly communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where it was also certified on 10th October 2025.
He argued that a person who is no longer an executive or official of the party lacks the locus standi to sue the ADC or claim the position of acting national chairman.
Melaye further noted that even according to the party’s constitution, Nafiu was not the Deputy National Chairman, the position that would automatically assume the role of acting chairman.
His words; “Nafiu resigned as Deputy National Chairman of the ADC on the 17th of May 2025. This resignation was communicated to INEC and was also certified. We have a certified true copy of the resignation on the 10th of October 2025. So, a man who is no longer an executive or official of the party, where does he generate the locus standi to even sue the party and claim that he ought to have taken over as acting chairman?….See More
