Heavyweights Like Peter Obi Were in Kano for Kwankwaso,Yet Look at the Only Crowd They Pulled— Waiya

During an interview on Channels Television, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, reacted to recent political developments in Kano following the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday. His comments come amid heightened political realignments and coalition-building efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Waiya also referenced the presence of key opposition figures, including Peter Obi, Atiku, Amaechi, and David Mark, who were in Kano as part of activities surrounding Kwankwaso’s formal reception into the ADC. The gathering has drawn attention as part of broader consultations among opposition leaders seeking to strengthen a unified front ahead of the elections.

He, however, downplayed the significance of the gathering, arguing that despite the presence of notable political figures, the turnout did not reflect widespread grassroots support. According to Waiya, the event was limited in scale and largely confined to a single location.

According to him, “Look at the heavyweights that were in Kano, the likes of Peter Obi, the likes of Dickson Seriake, and others; they’re all in Kano there, but look at the only crowd that they were able to pull. It’s just only within the premises of the residence of Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and it will not in any way contain more than 5000 people….See More
