He Came To My Cell, I Was Bold, I Said, Superintendent When I Come Out Of Here I’ll Sue You–Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo, the former president of Nigeria, has told a moving tale about his experience behind bars during the military government. During the reign of General Sani Abacha, he was imprisoned, but he was freed following Abacha’s unexpected death in 1998.

Obasanjo discussed how he learned about his release in a video posted by SYMFONI TV of him speaking at an occasion. He claims that the news was broadcast on television and radio, but he received no direct information while he was inside the jail that day.

“The superintendent, who usually never came to my cell, came to my cell in the evening,” Obasanjo remembered. “I was brave and told him,” Superintendent, I will sue you for detaining me in such a manner when I leave this place.

The jail administrator reassured him, saying that he was just carrying out orders from his headquarters and not from what he had seen on television or heard on the radio.

Everything was different the following day. “He arrived at Obasanjo’s cell at nine o’clock, saluted him smartly for the first time, and told him that he was free to go.

In a presidential jet, Obasanjo was transported directly from Yola to Lagos. The cops then took him to his farm from there.
