According to a report by Times of Israel, on October 16, 2025, released captive Rom Braslavski endured extreme torture and deprivation during his two-year imprisonment in Gaza, where he was repeatedly pressured to abandon his faith in exchange for basic necessities, his mother Tami revealed.
In a desperate bid for survival after months of receiving only half a pita bread each evening while being restrained hand and foot, Braslavski took matters into his own hands. He managed to ignite a terrorist’s uniform and a book, using the flames to prepare pasta.
The resulting smoke drew attention from others nearby, prompting his captor to relocate him to a marginally improved location before discovery, according to Tami’s account.
The 21-year-old security guard was seized by Hamas militants from the Supernova festival on October 7, 2023. He was finally liberated on Monday after spending more than 730 days in captivity.
“Rom told me that between April and July they abused him more,” Tami disclosed to Kan public broadcaster.

Throughout his ordeal, Braslavski’s captors systematically attempted to coerce him into converting to Islam, dangling additional food rations and small incentives as temptation. Despite the brutal conditions, he refused to compromise his Jewish identity.
Even facing his darkest moments, Braslavski maintained hope. “He told me, ‘Mom, I always knew it would end,'” Tami recounted.
Before his release, Braslavski witnessed the bodies of deceased hostages in Gaza.
Upon freedom, he informed Gal Hirsch, the Coordinator for the Hostages and Missing at the Prime Minister’s Office, that his mission remains incomplete.Continue, Full, Reading>>>>
