Gumi Claims Foreign Intelligence Behind Killings in Nigeria, Urges Overhaul of Security Strategy

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has suggested that recent killings across Nigeria could be the result of covert foreign intelligence operations. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Gumi reacted to the deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Jos North, Plateau State, where more than 20 people were killed. He condemned the violence and emphasized that these attacks should not be linked to religion. Gumi believes that the pattern of killings points to a hidden external influence using local collaborators to carry out these attacks.

Supporting his claim, Gumi referenced several recent incidents, including the coordinated bombings in Maiduguri on March 16, 2026, which killed 23 people and injured over 100, and the March 29 attack in Jos during Palm Sunday, where gunmen killed and injured several people. He also noted that members of the Nigerian Army have fallen victim to similar attacks, indicating that the violence affects both civilians and security forces.

Gumi called for a reassessment of Nigeria’s security strategy, urging the government to reduce foreign influence on its security apparatus. He recommended seeking support from “friendly superpowers,” particularly in satellite intelligence and military equipment, while enhancing local security capabilities. He ended his message with prayers for the recovery of the injured and condolences to the families of the victims….See More
