Fubara: If Someone Else Is Controlling Your House Of Assembly, Then He’s A Better Leader -Wike’s SSA

Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, arguing that control of the State House of Assembly is a clear measure of political leadership.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Monday, January 19, 2026, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Communications to Wike, suggested that a governor who fails to command the loyalty of lawmakers after nearly three years in office lacks political strength.

Olayinka stated that if a governor claims that another political figure is controlling members of the State House of Assembly and is unable to win over even a single legislator, it is an indication that the rival figure is the superior leader and politician.

According to him, such a governor should accept political defeat and openly acknowledge the influence of the individual allegedly controlling the legislature. Using colloquial expressions, Olayinka said the appropriate response would be for the governor to show humility, concede political superiority, and “raise two hands, raise the right leg, and say Twalé sir.”

He further punctuated his remarks with the Yoruba phrase “Ko ju bẹ́ẹ̀ lọ,” meaning “it is no more than that,” underscoring his position that political control of the legislature is a straightforward test of power and leadership.

The post has intensified the already heated political discourse surrounding Rivers State, where the rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, continues to play out through disputes involving the State House of Assembly.
