FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has denied allegations from the political camp of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara that he instructed party leaders to avoid meeting a federal government delegation visiting the state.
Speaking in a media coverage by TVC, Wike dismissed the claims as false. “As a minister of the Federal Republic, some people play politics with everything. I heard people said I told some leaders not to come when a delegation from the federal government came. That’s a lie from the pit of hell. On that particular day, we were going to Senator Abe’s sister’s burial, and most of the leaders were not aware that such a visit was taking place,” he stated.
The minister explained that when leaders learned about the visit, he actually encouraged their attendance. “And so when they heard it, they came and said, ‘No, the mere fact that you have had it now—the federal delegation—make sure the council chairman, all of them—I said, ‘Make sure you are there,'” Wike recounted, adding that he himself had not been formally invited to the event.
Wike accused his opponents of engaging in political manipulation and warned that fabricating stories would not guarantee political advantages. “No amount of conspiracy, no amount of telling lies will give anybody a ticket. If you like, tell all kinds of lies you want to tell. Say all kinds of things against me. It is not a guarantee for a ticket. We have made mistakes before,” he declared.
