The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to workers in the FCT to comply fully with the court order directing the suspension of their ongoing strike, stressing that failure to resume work would attract sanctions.
Wike made the remarks in a video shared by his aide, Lere Olayinka, on X on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, following the ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria which ordered workers under the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) to suspend their industrial action.
Speaking in response to questions on the implication of the court’s decision, the minister emphasised that obedience to the law was non-negotiable. “That’s right, if you disobey the law, there’re no consequences for disobeying the law. We must allow people to obey the law frankly,” Wike said.
He stated that the court ruling provided a clear directive which workers were expected to follow without hesitation, adding that the FCT Administration would not tolerate any further disruption of official activities.
According to the minister, workers had been given sufficient opportunity to engage with the government through lawful means and should take advantage of that window. “I’m giving them the window, you can see me in office today,” he said.
Wike warned that the situation would change from the following day if workers failed to return to their duty posts. “From tomorrow, if you don’t come to work then we’re going to apply the big stick,” he said.
The minister also cautioned against any attempt to obstruct access to government facilities, including blocking entry points. “And from tomorrow, if you see anybody who says, oh, he wants to block the gate, we’ll make you a scapegoat,” Wike said.
He stressed that the enforcement of the court order would be carried out strictly in line with the law, insisting that the authority of the court must be respected. “The law must take its place,” he added.
