Edo Attack: Ten Vehicles Without Plate Numbers Moved Freely; You Know What Abacha Would Say?—Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticized the security situation surrounding the violent attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi and other political figures in Benin City, Edo State. His comments came during an interview on Arise Television, where he described the security lapses he believes accompanied the incident that unfolded following a political event in the state capital.

Reports confirm that gunmen opened fire at members of the ADC, including Obi and former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, shortly after the formal induction of Olumide Akpata into the party. Armed assailants are said to have trailed the group from the ADC Secretariat to Odigie-Oyegun’s residence, where they fired shots that damaged vehicles and breached property before security responders arrived.

Okonkwo argued that the level of chaotic movement by unidentified individuals further highlighted deficiencies in law enforcement that day. He pointed to the unchallenged presence of unmarked vehicles in the area during the unfolding violence, alleging that security agents did not intervene to stop or question them, even as the threat to political leaders grew.

According to him, “The governor is the chief security officer of Edo State. The president is the chief security officer of Nigeria. Ten vehicles without plate numbers moving in one direction. They were not arrested, they were not stopped, they were not interrogated, they finished everything, and they left. You know what Abacha would tell you? Abacha will tell you that’s state-sponsored terrorism….See More
