Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), hosted the party’s 36 state chairmen and the FCT chairman at his Abuja residence on Monday, December 1, 2025.
The meeting came barely a week after Atiku formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and registered with the ADC.
Here Is What He Wrote On His Official X Handle
Addressing the chairmen, Atiku stressed urgency in building a strong opposition front ahead of the 2027 presidential election. “There is no time to waste in our rescue mission,” he said, calling on coalition partners to formally join the ADC and work toward dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On Tuesday, veteran journalist and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu praised Atiku’s moves on X, describing him as the only opposition figure currently showing serious preparation for 2027.
Momodu highlighted Atiku’s nationwide structures, strategic ethnic and religious balancing, and early mobilisation efforts. The development has generated mixed reactions within opposition circles.
While some see Atiku’s ADC platform as a viable vehicle for unity, others question whether his long political history and previous electoral contests may hinder broader coalition-building.
Discussions around potential alliances, including with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, continue to dominate political discourse.
