According to a report by Daily Post on Sunday, February 1, 2026, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has assured that the federal government is taking measures to ensure that the wives and children of the sixteen military officers arrested over a foiled coup are properly cared for.
The arrested officers, including a Brigadier-General and a Colonel, were implicated in a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, confirmed by the Defence Headquarters on January 26.
The conspiracy, uncovered through intelligence from the Army, Department of State Services, and Defence Intelligence Agency in late September 2025, allegedly involved plans to assassinate the President, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and other senior government officials, as well as detain top military leaders.
General Musa emphasized that the accused officers were aware of the consequences of their actions and would face a fair trial with access to legal counsel of their choice.
“Their family members are not left alone. The government is making sure that their wives and children are looked after. The perpetrators already know the repercussion of their action, and I’m sure they are ready to face the wrath,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the officers had acquired 32 vehicles for covert operations, highlighting the seriousness of the plot.
