Authorities in Beersheba have begun demolishing a high-rise apartment complex that was directly hit by an Iranian ballistic missile during the closing hours of June’s 12-day war.
According to Times of Israel, the attack on June 24, 2025, claimed four lives and left the structure severely weakened, prompting safety officials to order its complete removal.
Among those killed in the strike were 18-year-old IDF soldier Cpl. Eitan Zacks, his mother Michal Zacks, 50, his girlfriend Noa Boguslavsky, 18, and their neighbor, 73-year-old Naomi Shaanan.
The missile, carrying an estimated 500-kilogram warhead, struck two reinforced safe rooms on the sixth floor — a direct hit that caused catastrophic structural damage and the partial collapse of the building.
The complex, which had been built in recent years and equipped with standard reinforced shelters, was unable to withstand the force of the impact.
Footage released on Wednesday shows demolition excavators tearing down the remains of the building as authorities move to clear the site, citing the danger of further collapse.
The Iranian strike on Beersheba was one of the deadliest single attacks of the conflict, coming just hours before a ceasefire took effect.
It marked the first time in years that Israel’s southern city suffered a direct hit from an Iranian missile, underscoring the long-range threat posed by Tehran’s arsenal.
Local officials and residents have expressed sorrow at the loss of life and property, calling the demolition a painful but necessary step to rebuild safely.
The municipality has pledged to assist affected families and to construct a memorial at the site to honor the victims.
