Dr. Yahuza Getso, a Nigerian security expert, has responded to claims surrounding U.S. airstrikes in Sokoto, arguing that the strikes disproportionately affect Muslims rather than targeting terrorists.
In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Dr. Getso said he related the airstrikes to a statement credited to former U.S. President Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter), where Trump said, “Stop Christian genocide.” He used this statement to highlight what he believes is a misrepresentation of the real situation on the ground.
He insisted that the strikes near Sokoto, the seat of the Sultan of Sokoto—the head of the Muslim faithful in Nigeria—appear to target Muslim communities rather than actual ISIS operatives or criminals.
In Dr. Yahuza Getso’s words:
“I related it to the statement being credited to Trump in his Twitter message on the same issue, that he said, ‘Stop Christian genocide.’ And I’m justifying my argument that the total number of Muslims that have been killed is 90 and Christians are 10.”
