China has expressed deep concern over recent violent clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both nations to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals and investments in the region, according to a statement from Beijing’s foreign ministry on Monday.
According to a report by Reuters on October 13, 2025, the ministry highlighted the need for heightened security measures to protect Chinese interests amid escalating tensions.
The latest conflict, described as the most severe since the Taliban regained control of Kabul, resulted in significant casualties, with both Pakistan and Afghanistan reporting dozens of fighters killed in overnight border skirmishes on Sunday.
The two countries, once allies, have seen their relationship deteriorate, prompting China to step in as a mediator due to its strategic interests and shared borders with both nations in its western region.
China is committed to playing a constructive role in fostering improved relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, stated foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian during a routine press briefing.
Beijing strongly encourages Kabul and Islamabad to exercise restraint and remain calm, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation to prevent further escalation of hostilities.
Lin Jian underscored that open communication is essential to addressing mutual concerns and maintaining stability in the region.
In August, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi participated in a trilateral meeting in Kabul with his Pakistani and Afghan counterparts, where he advocated for enhanced exchanges at all levels to strengthen bilateral ties.
