Halima Muhammad, a widow, has stated that she was forced to run away from her community in Jere Local Government of Borno State 14 years ago after Boko Haram attacked the community and killed her husband.
According to a report by Punch on Sunday, October 26, 2025, Halima said the weapons used by the Boko Haram terrorists during the attack were so loud that it felt as if the earth was shaking. She said dust filled the air, and people could barely see or hear anything while running for safety. She added that those terrifying moments still haunt her whenever she remembers them
Halima also said that she and her children once ran almost 50 kilometres on foot while escaping from Boko Haram. She said at one point, she became too weak and dropped her last-born, Muhammad. She said someone helped her carry him, and without that person, she might have lost her son forever. She said, “The weapons were so loud it felt as though the earth itself was shaking.
