In a video released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Primate Elijah Ayodele expressed concerns about the increasing international involvement in Nigeria’s security and political matters, particularly regarding the discussions on genocide and foreign intervention.
During his remarks, Ayodele warned the federal government to correctly interpret the intentions of the United States and other Western nations. He stated, “Forget about genocide; America is not fighting genocide, it is your government they want to confront,” directing this message towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he clarified what he perceives as the true motivation behind America’s interest in Nigeria.
Ayodele emphasized that the situation extends beyond humanitarian concerns, pointing out that global powers often pursue strategic and political agendas rather than moral ones. He highlighted that U.S. pressure focuses more on Nigeria’s leadership, governance style, and internal power dynamics than on allegations of genocide or religious persecution.
He cautioned that if the government does not recognize this reality, it may mishandle its diplomatic approach and become subject to undue international pressure. He stressed that foreign nations typically act in their own self-interest, even when they frame their actions as concerned for human rights or security.
Ayodele also advised President Tinubu to enhance internal governance, promote transparency, and effectively tackle insecurity to mitigate foreign interference. He argued that a firm, united, and proactive government will be less vulnerable to external exploitation of its internal issues.
Additionally, he urged Nigerians to remain calm and vigilant, suggesting that not all international statements or actions are motivated by goodwill. He pointed out that understanding global politics is essential as the country approaches another election cycle amid growing international attention.
