According to Jerusalem Post, the head of Israel’s internal security service issued a stark warning on Tuesday, stating that Israelis and Jews worldwide face a significantly heightened risk of kidnapping in the aftermath of the recent war in Gaza.
Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar, who is also known by the nickname Zini, made the assessment during a closed-door briefing to Israeli lawmakers.
A transcript of his remarks was later verified by officials.
In his address, Bar directly linked the increased threat to the intense hostilities and their regional reverberations.
“In the wake of the war, Israelis and Jews face a heightened danger of kidnapping, Bar stated, according to the transcript.
He elaborated that the conflict has inflamed extremist sentiments globally, creating a more permissive environment for hostile actors, including terrorist organizations and lone-wolf attackers, to plot abductions.
Security analysts agree the threat is multidimensional.
They point to attempted attacks by groups like ISIS-K in Turkey, a rise in antisemitic incidents globally, and the explicit calls by Iran-backed militias for the capture of Israeli soldiers and civilians.
The war’s prominence, they argue, has made Jewish and Israeli travelers more conspicuous targets for propaganda victories or ransom demands.
The Shin Bet and Mossad are reportedly coordinating with international partners to share intelligence and bolster protective measures for Jewish communities and diplomatic missions abroad.
The National Security Council has reiterated its travel advisories, urging Israeli citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid displaying overt signs of their nationality in many countries.
