In a recent appearance on News Central TV, Abdul Danbature, the President of the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership, offered an in-depth reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments regarding Nigeria’s security challenges. Danbature addressed both the accuracy of Trump’s claims and the broader context of insecurity affecting Nigerians across different regions and religions.
During the interview, he emphasized the sophisticated intelligence technology available to the United States. According to him, “America has what is called a death tracker; they know everything that is happening in Nigeria.” Despite such extensive surveillance capabilities, Danbature argued that Trump’s framing of Nigeria’s violence as one targeted exclusively at Christians does not reflect the reality on the ground. He stated that insecurity in Nigeria cuts across religious lines, saying, “The issue here is not about religion. Both Muslims and Christians are affected. Insecurity is universal in Nigeria, especially in the northern region.”
He went on to criticize the terminology often used to describe the criminal groups responsible for widespread violence. Danbature noted that referring to these violent actors simply as “bandits” fails to capture the level of destruction they cause, including kidnappings, killings, and raids on rural communities. “Calling them mere bandits undermines the severity of the threat,” he said, stressing that proper classification is necessary to accurately confront the menace. “Accurate information and proper classification are essential if we are to solve this crisis,” he added.
As the discussion progressed, Danbature issued a strong call for decisive action. He urged both Nigerian authorities and international partners to treat the security crisis with urgency and sincerity. He concluded with a warning that time is running out for affected communities: “The government must act sincerely and use all available resources to protect the lives of Nigerians. Every day counts, and we cannot afford to wait any longer.”
