Amaewhule: When We Left During Emergency Rule We Left Over N300Bn, We Came Back & Met N600Bn -Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has firmly denied allegations of financial impropriety leveled against his administration by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, insisting that all funds under his watch have been transparently managed and properly documented.

Amaewhule had recently accused the governor of spending state funds without legislative approval, alleging that contracts were being awarded to cronies and that a sum of about N600 billion left in the state’s accounts after the period of emergency rule was being used to induce or “divide” lawmakers. The allegations have further heightened political tensions in the state amid an ongoing power struggle between the executive and the legislature.

Reacting to the claims in a video shared by Symfoni TV, Governor Fubara described the accusations as false and misleading. He stated that records available to relevant authorities clearly show the true financial position of the state before, during, and after the emergency rule that briefly disrupted his administration.

According to the governor, when he was suspended during the emergency rule, his administration left more than N300 billion in Rivers State’s accounts. He stressed that this figure is not speculative but backed by official documentation that can be independently verified.

Fubara further revealed that upon his return to office, his government met about N600 billion in the state’s accounts, countering insinuations that the funds had been misappropriated. He emphasized that all expenditures made by his administration are properly recorded and subject to scrutiny.

The governor assured Rivers residents and Nigerians at large that there is nothing to hide regarding the management of the state’s finances. He pledged that within the next six months, comprehensive evidence detailing how the funds have been utilized would be made public.

“I want to also say to the whole world that when we left during the emergency rule, our records are there, we left over 300 billion naira. When we came back, we met about 600 billion naira. Every penny that we are spending the records is there and evidence of it would be shown within now and the next 6 months,” Fubara said.

He added that no one can genuinely question his sincerity or link him to fraud or corruption, noting that his administration remains committed to openness, accountability, and due process in governance.
