Ann Kio Briggs, a human rights activist and member of the Rivers Elders Forum, has stated that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi did not support Nyesom Wike to become governor of Rivers State
In an interview with TVC, Briggs said that it was actually Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who supported Wike to become governor. She said that even though Jonathan was president at the time, he did not oppose his wife’s decision. Briggs explained that Patience Jonathan is from Rivers State and belongs to the Ijaw ethnic group and the Okrika clan
In Briggs’ words: “Amaechi didn’t choose Wike a governor, he did not choose Wike as a candidate. Patience Goodluck, Jonathan’s wife, chose Wike and even the president himself did not say no. If you look at it like that, it was a riverine couple. Patience Goodluck is from Rivers State, she is from Ijaw ethnic nationality and she is from the Okrika clan. So she fully supported Nyesom Wike.
