Airstrike: I Spoke With Someone Who Said, ‘The Bomb Did Not Drop in Our Residential Area’ — Nasiru

Residents of parts of Sokoto State were thrown into fear and confusion following reports of an overnight air strike linked to joint security operations involving Nigeria and the United States, as authorities remain cautious about releasing full details of the incident.

The reported strike, which occurred around midnight, targeted an area in Sokoto South Senatorial District, drawing attention because the affected communities have largely remained peaceful in recent years. By morning, anxiety had spread among residents, with many unsure of the scale of the operation, the exact location affected, or whether casualties had been recorded.

As of the time of reporting, the Sokoto State Government had yet to issue an official statement, a development that has heightened speculation and concern among locals. Security officials were also yet to grant journalists access to the affected area, citing the need for proper clearance and safety assessments.

Information gathered from community sources suggests that the strike occurred around forested areas linking parts of Sokoto to neighbouring Zamfara and Kebbi states, routes that have previously been associated with the movement of armed groups. While these areas are not densely populated, their proximity to rural settlements has raised fears among residents who worry about possible escalation or retaliation.

Local journalists on ground say efforts are ongoing to independently verify the situation, including casualty figures and the extent of damage, if any. Residents have been advised to remain calm as security agencies continue assessments.

Speaking during a live interview on Arise News, Suleiman Nasiru, an Arise News correspondent in Sokoto, said, “Some locals said there is panic and fear among residents in the community, and this is as far as I can confirm from the locals we have spoken with. We are still trying to get access to the community to bring information to Nigerians about what is happening exactly. Earlier, I spoke with someone in the community who said, as far as they are concerned, the bomb did not drop in a residential area.
