In a video shared by Trust TV, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a prominent public affairs commentator, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of insecurity and religious intolerance across the country.
Baba-Ahmed lamented that Nigerians have continued to suffer from senseless killings driven by religion, ethnicity, and political divisions.
In a passionate remark, he stated: “We know there are people who are killing Christians and Muslims. We know that there are places where we fight as Muslims and Christians. We know there are places where we fight as herders and farmers. We know that this country has been substantially insecure. There are huge parts of the country where Muslims kill Muslims, shouting Allahu Akbar while killing people in mosques. We know there are huge parts of the country in the Southeast where, for the last decade, Christians have been killing Christians.”
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the persistence of violence and insecurity reflects the failure of both leadership and communities to confront the root causes of division.
He warned that the continuous cycle of revenge and mistrust threatens the very foundation of the nation, urging Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious sentiments.
He called on political leaders, religious figures, and traditional rulers to demonstrate sincerity and unity in tackling insecurity rather than exploiting divisions for personal or political gains.
