The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has reacted after watching a viral video of a man who allegedly goes to parties to steal people’s phones. The video, which has been making rounds on social media, shows how the man walks into social gatherings pretending to be a decent guest before discreetly stealing mobile phones from unsuspecting victims.
The incident was shared on Dabiri’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on January 1, 2026. According to the video, the man reportedly enters parties confidently, sits calmly among guests, and carefully observes his surroundings before carrying out his act. He was eventually captured on a CCTV camera while committing the crime, exposing his method of operation.
Reacting to the disturbing footage, Dabiri expressed concern over the increasing rate of such incidents and warned Nigerians to remain alert, especially during social gatherings and public events. She urged partygoers to be more cautious with their belongings and avoid unnecessary distractions that could make them easy targets.
The NiDCOM chairman also expressed hope that the suspect would be identified and apprehended soon by the appropriate authorities. She emphasized the importance of community awareness and collective responsibility in tackling crimes of this nature.
