A Landlord Can Issue You A Notice To Raise His Rents By 100% & 200% Just 4months To Expiration -Adio

A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ayodele Adio, has raised concern over the issue of arbitrary rent hikes by landlords.

According to report by CHANNELSTV TV on Friday, Adio explained that tenants are often subjected to sudden and steep increases in rent, sometimes as high as 100% or even 200%, with only a few months’ notice before their current rent expires. He argued that this practice is unfair and leaves tenants with little time to plan financially or make alternative housing arrangements.

The ADC chieftain proposed that the government should introduce a cap on rent increments, ensuring that property owners cannot raise rents beyond a reasonable percentage. He also suggested that landlords be mandated to give tenants at least 12 months’ notice before any rent increase takes effect.

His words, “Today, as we speak, a landlord can issue you a notice to raise his rents by 100% and 200% with just four months to the expiration of your rent.”…..See More
