In a recent video shared on Facebook on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, addressed widespread speculation about his relationship with fellow Niger Delta leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
According to Dokubo, “A lot of people called me, asking if there was any problem between me and my brother Tompolo,” a reaction he said was triggered by rumors and online narratives suggesting a rift between them. He dismissed such claims as unfounded and misleading.
Dokubo explained that the speculation surprised him, noting that disagreement in opinions or silence should not automatically be interpreted as conflict. According to him, Nigerians are often quick to assume rivalry where none exists, especially among prominent figures from the same region.
He emphasized that his relationship with Tompolo is built on mutual respect and shared history, even though both men operate independently and make decisions based on their personal convictions. Dokubo stressed that independence should not be mistaken for hostility.
The activist also criticized those who deliberately fuel rumors to create division within the Niger Delta. According to him, such narratives weaken collective strength and distract from more important regional issues, including development, security, and fairness.
Dokubo further stated that unity among Niger Delta leaders does not require uniformity in actions or opinions. He added that respect for each other’s paths is essential for sustaining peace and progress in the region, urging the public to avoid amplifying baseless assumptions.
