Chris Okafor Speaks Out Amid Wedding Controversy and Recounts Kidnapping Ordeal

According to a report by Premium Times on Monday, December 22, 2025, The founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Lagos, Pastor Chris Okafor, has addressed the backlash following his wedding to his wife, Pearl. The ceremony drew attention due to claims from actress Doris Ogala, who alleged that Okafor failed to honor a prior marriage commitment and warned that the union would not endure.

After the wedding, Ogala issued a formal legal notice, demanding N1 billion within 21 days, threatening legal action over what her lawyers described as a failed marriage claim from an alleged nine-year relationship. She sought compensation for emotional, psychological, and reputational harm, accusing the cleric of negatively impacting her life.

During a wedding thanksgiving service at his church headquarters in Lagos on Sunday, Okafor attributed the criticism to spiritual opposition, describing it as “the devil becoming angry” over the brief glimpse of their union shared publicly.

He stated, “Someday, at the right moment, we will share our story. But for now, we simply give thanks to God. We prayed, sought guidance, and followed God’s direction. Only we know the full story and the plans of God. To Him alone be the glory.”

Pastor Okafor revealed that his father personally paid the dowry, emphasizing that some aspects of life should remain private until their “time of manifestation.” He expressed gratitude to the congregation for supporting the wedding and reassured them of his continued commitment as their prophet, extending apologies to anyone who felt offended.

Pearl Okafor also thanked the church members for their support, saying, “You stood by us during the marriage and celebration. The joy we feel continues because of your love. We are deeply grateful.”

During his sermon, Okafor recounted a harrowing kidnapping experience he endured, spending 58 days in captivity. He described being blindfolded, chained, and minimally clothed, surviving multiple gunshots while held by kidnappers.

He said, “I escaped to tell the story. They shot repeatedly, yet not a single bullet harmed me. I trusted in God’s protection. For 58 days, we were blindfolded and restrained, moved in the boots of vehicles, and forced to witness attacks on police stations. But I remained unharmed by His grace. Poison and bullets cannot defeat me because of divine preservation.”

Okafor’s narrative combined personal testimony, spiritual reflection, and gratitude for the congregation’s support, while also addressing public criticism surrounding his recent marriage.
