According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, December 22, 2025, Ifenyinwa Christopher, a Lagos-based lawyer and Notary Public, has described a violent robbery incident in which she was attacked by a shuttle driver along the Asaba–Benin Expressway in Delta State, leaving her with injuries and the loss of personal belongings.
The incident occurred while she was travelling within the state ahead of a family burial ceremony.
Christopher said she travelled to Asaba to attend a burial scheduled for Saturday and decided to move around the city on Friday to purchase items needed for the event.
She explained that she boarded a shuttle bus in the airport area of the state, believing it to be a routine trip, and had no indication that the driver was armed or posed a threat.
As the journey continued toward the Ogwashi-Uku axis, the situation changed suddenly. Christopher explained that the driver diverted from normal conduct, stopped the vehicle in a dark area, and began issuing threats.
She said the surroundings were isolated, with no other vehicles or pedestrians nearby, leaving her with no immediate opportunity to escape or seek help.
She said, “On December 19, I chartered a shuttle around 8 p.m. While we were on the road around Ogwashi-Uku, he suddenly stopped and brought out a gun. He also started hitting me and asked me to put my head down. The entire area was dark, and there was nobody in sight.”
She said the driver assaulted her during the encounter and forcefully collected her belongings.
According to her account, the items taken included her mobile phone and cash, while she was left shaken and injured.
She added that the gun was used to intimidate her into compliance throughout the incident.
Christopher stated that she later managed to get assistance after the driver fled the scene.
She said the experience left her traumatised and concerned about safety on major roads within the state, particularly for passengers travelling alone at night or using chartered shuttle services.
The lawyer noted that the incident has affected her physically and emotionally, as she continues to recover from the attack.
She said the matter was reported to the appropriate authorities, expressing hope that the driver would be identified and prevented from harming other road users along the expressway.
