Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reacted to a Facebook post by Islamic cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, in which the cleric commented on negotiations with armed groups in Nigeria.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Olayinka referenced Dr. Gumi’s Facebook post, which read: “They say: negotiations doesn’t work and It’s a lie. It worked with militants in Niger Delta creeks. Rather, it’s war that doesn’t work, 16 years we’re still fighting BH and 11 years fighting bandits. It’s stupidity doing the same thing and expect different results.”
Reacting to the post, Olayinka questioned Dr. Gumi’s position and the context of his remarks, particularly as they relate to insecurity in northern Nigeria. In his post, Olayinka wrote: “I think Dr Ahmad Gumi knows what we all don’t know about these terrorists in the North.”
Olayinka further drew a comparison between militancy in the Niger Delta and the activities of armed groups in northern Nigeria. He stated that Niger Delta militants had previously outlined their grievances and demands, which, according to him, included environmental concerns such as oil pollution.
He contrasted this with the situation in the North, writing: “Niger Delta militants made demands. They stated their grievances, which included oil pollution. What are the demands of the terrorists killing, kidnapping and even raping people in the North?”
In his reaction, Olayinka emphasized that Dr. Gumi should be questioned further on his stance. He concluded his post by stating: “Gumi needs to be asked these questions.”
