According to a report by Channels TV on Friday, December 20, 2025, President Bola Tinubu has issued a firm warning to state governors, signaling his readiness to enforce direct local government funding through an executive order if they fail to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling on LG autonomy.
Speaking at the APC NEC meeting in Abuja, Tinubu said:
“Now that you have your elections at the local government level, you are responsible for their survival.”
He reminded them that the “Supreme Court has scrapped it for you again, saying give them their money directly.”
Using a local metaphor to assert his authority, Tinubu warned:
“If you wait for my executive order because I have the knife, I have the yam I will cut it. Before we do the FAAC, we know the percentage and I send it to their account.”
He concluded by stressing: “I’m just being very respectful and understanding with my governors. Otherwise, if you don’t start to implement it, FAAC after FAAC, you will see.
