Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he has not misused Rivers State funds, firmly denying the allegations made by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule. Amaewhule recently said Fubara has been spending Rivers money without the Assembly’s approval, awarding contracts to his cronies, and using the N600 billion left in the state’s accounts after the emergency rule to divide lawmakers
In a video shared by Symfoni TV, Fubara said when he was suspended during the emergency rule he left behind more than 300 billion naira in the state’s accounts at that time. He said this information is documented and verifiable. He said that upon returning to office, his administration met about 600 billion naira in the state’s accounts and that all spending records are available and can be verified.
Fubara stated that within the next six months, evidence of how the money was used will be made public. Fubara said he has nothing to hide and is committed to transparency. He emphasized that no one can question his sincerity or associate him with any form of fraud or corruption.
In Fubara’s words: “I want to also say to the whole world that when we left during the emergency rule, our records are there, we left over 300 billion naira. When we came back, we met about 600 billion naira. Every penny that we are spending the records is there and evidence of it would be shown within now and the next 6 months.
